Lake Altmühlsee – located near Gunzenhausen and covering 450 hectares, gently embedded in the charming and spacious landscape of the upper Altmühl Valley – is ideal for sailing and windsurfing, swimming and fishing, hiking and cycling.
In Schlungenhof, Muhr am See, and Wald with marinas, water and dry berths for boats, slipways, bathing beaches, playgrounds, kiosks with lakeside terraces, boat and bicycle rentals, a surf center, sailing school, beach volleyball, and a passenger boat service (scheduled and special cruises).
moreA visitor survey conducted by the “Futour” working group at Lake Altmühlsee revealed that 64 percent of vacationers and day visitors are between 30 and 49 years old. Nearly 20 percent belong to the 50 to 70 age group. Of these, 14 percent are already returning guests.
Cycling

A well-developed and mostly flat cycling path runs directly around Lake Altmühlsee, encircling the lake over approximately 13 kilometers. It is ideal for relaxed tours – perfect for families, leisure cyclists, or shared outings.

The central location of Reiterhof Altmühlsee makes it the ideal starting point for exploring Middle Franconia. Just about 40 minutes away, Rothenburg ob der Tauber awaits you – one of Germany’s most famous medieval towns, with its historic town hall and picturesque half-timbered streets.
In just 15 minutes by car, you can reach the former Roman town of Weißenburg, whose thermal baths and fort ruins offer fascinating insights into the past. Dinkelsbühl, the Nördlinger Ries, Solnhofen with its famous Archaeopteryx fossil, as well as the cities of Nuremberg and Ansbach are also within easy reach.
