Our Visitors
A visitor survey conducted by the “Futour” working group at Lake Altmühlsee revealed that 64 percent of vacationers and day visitors are between 30 and 49 years old. Nearly 20 percent belong to the 50 to 70 age group. Of these, 14 percent are already returning guests.
Cycling
The region around Lake Altmühlsee is a true paradise for cycling enthusiasts – whether you prefer a leisurely pleasure ride, sporty day trips, or multi-day cycling adventures through Franconia’s diverse landscape.
A well-developed and mostly flat cycling path runs directly around Lake Altmühlsee, encircling the lake over approximately 13 kilometers. It is ideal for relaxed tours – perfect for families, leisure cyclists, or shared outings.
Leisure and Water Sports
The “Franconian Lake District” not only offers ideal conditions for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, diving, and swimming, but also provides excellent opportunities for many other leisure activities such as hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and much more. Its mostly flat terrain and well-signposted network of paths around the lakes and surrounding areas make it perfectly suited for outdoor recreation.
Fishing
Anglers are more than well catered for here. The Altmühl River as well as Lakes Altmühlsee, Brombachsee, and Schnackensee offer excellent fishing opportunities. Fishing permits are, of course, available directly from us.

Day Trips
The central location of Reiterhof Altmühlsee makes it the ideal starting point for exploring Middle Franconia. Just about 40 minutes away, Rothenburg ob der Tauber awaits you – one of Germany’s most famous medieval towns, with its historic town hall and picturesque half-timbered streets.
In just 15 minutes by car, you can reach the former Roman town of Weißenburg, whose thermal baths and fort ruins offer fascinating insights into the past. Dinkelsbühl, the Nördlinger Ries, Solnhofen with its famous Archaeopteryx fossil, as well as the cities of Nuremberg and Ansbach are also within easy reach.
